ITALIAN VERBS CARDS #1

GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN GRAMMAR ITALIAN VERBS Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 high-frequency Italian verbs with 99 matching English verbs cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner Italian learners, as they prepare to move into and work confidently at intermediate Italian level. The games and activities are a really successful alternative to more traditional 'vocabulary drilling' exercises. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 verbs. Students find this really useful as a learning support resource, and it comes in very handy for quick vocabulary quizzes too. The Recall and Write challenges help students familiarise themselves with, and really embed, the range of verbs in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in Italian. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in Italian. The challenges can be done several times, as students simply cover previous responses, so they definitely get a lot of use from a single workbook. There are three differentiated recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One: students write the English verbs from an Italian prompt, with all the verbs in alphabetical order, Italian-English. Written Recall Challenge Two: again, students write the verbs in English from an Italian prompt, but the Italian verbs are now in random, rather than alphabetical order. Language learners often learn or are familiar with new vocabulary in a particular order, so it increases the recall challenge by changing that order. Written Recall Challenge Three: the final challenge requires students to write the corresponding Italian verb from an English prompt. The English verbs are also in random order. This challenge really helps with vocabulary recall, which is quite challenging when vocabulary does not appear in the context of a sentence. It's really useful for spelling in Italian too. We also use their notes to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which again is really useful, and a very popular activity with students too. The resource works best when used frequently and regularly - students should store their work carefully in a learning folder or file that they can refer to at any point to support their learning and revision. Students also note down any new, related vocabulary, which builds into a really comprehensive high-frequency Italian verb vocabulary bank in a very short space of time. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in Spanish. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the tilde on the letter ñ, and how important that is in creating the correct sound of the word. The aim of the game is to create a Spanish sentence chain as quickly as possible, starting with Tengo la primera tarjeta, and ending with the final card, Tengo la última tarjeta. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are beginning to familiarise themselves with the written word, and starting to link spelling with sound. There are 25 animals featured in the game: bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply practicing or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practicing particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too. There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more! Laminate the cards if you can: they’re far more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you’ll be able to use them over and over again. PRIMARY SPANISH TELLING THE TIME DOMINOES KS3 SPANISH TELLING THE TIME DOMINOES ANALOGUE CLOCK TIMES Files are non-editable in a zipped format. This resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading. There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge: Challenge One features a range of clock times,o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so it’s good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. I’ve used en punto to express o’clock, but I point out to students that it’s not absolutely necessary, and they’ll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. Challenge Two features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face. Challenge Three also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge. There’s definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to. Challenge 2: verbs are in random order, with the question and answer format: As-tu… ? PRIMARY GERMAN KS3 GERMAN CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES BEGINNER GERMAN VOCABULARY CARDS & QUIZ featuring 99 beginner German words and phrases, 198 matching German and English Santa cards and whole-group multi-skill vocabulary quiz with 60 questions The Christmas-theme cards work really well for revision and practice - my students find the Santa cards fun and motivating! There are 198 matching German and English vocabulary cards, which is definitely quite a bit of prep. I always laminate my vocabulary cards, they are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years, so it’s worth the extra prep time and expense. There a lots of different games students can play entirely independently, and I’ve outlined a selection that work well for us. My students really like to work together, in pairs or in small groups, moving away from more teacher-led activities. The games enable them to practice and consolidate their key beginner German vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, and they really do create a lively language learning environment. Students can have either an entire set, depending on the size of their learning group, or particular collections of cards, according to the vocabulary theme. I’ve described the set as not grade-specific, because the content depends on the particular learning stage your students have reached, or are working towards. The vocabulary in this set focuses on: die Begrüßungen die Tage der Woche die Monate des Jahres die vier Jahreszeiten die Zahlen 0 bis 31 die Farben die Länder The set comprises: 198 matching German and English Santa cards, each with a particular word or phrase from the above vocabulary groups 60-question whole-group multi-skill quiz, with a range of questions such as Wie sagt man … auf Englisch? Wie schreibt man … auf Deutsch? The quiz is a non-editable presentation file for copyright reasons, and moves on to the next question with a click. Have a look through it first before you play the quiz with your students, so that you can prepare any additional questions or dialogue you think would work well for them Have a browse in my store for more German Christmas activities, and a wide range of other German teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles & resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! There are lots of games they enjoy playing, and I’ve described several that are really popular. The quiz works well as a whole-group quiz, but I always give my students a pdf version that they can load on to tablets to play the quiz in small groups if they prefer to do it that way. FRENCH ANIMALS FLASHCARDS #1

(2)
PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These French animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous French look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of French. They introduce learners to a range of animals in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are une. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ours and loup. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel : a turtle / a tortoise : a wolf It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are three sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: French flag, animal footprint or black wave. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both***masculine and feminine***, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the indefinite article in Spanish too. It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with Spanish, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Spanish. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators. There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games: Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in Spanish, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in Spanish. Deck 2: picture-only cards, useful for vocabulary recall Deck 3: word-only cards in French, useful for word recognition, reading and spelling. Deck 4: word-only cards in English, useful for a variety of games focusing on vocabulary recall Deck 5: both Spanish & English words on a single card, useful for close comparison of language, and recognition of corresponding words The animals featured are: a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a caterpillar : a chicken : a cow : a dog a donkey : a duck : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a pig : a rabbit : a sheep : a spider : a turtle / tortoise Have a browse in my store for more Spanish games cards, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish resource boxes, special offer bundles and lots of freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!
